Join Jesus in His kingdom work
We have talked about Be with Jesus, Be transformed by Jesus, and Become like Jesus. Now we have come to the fourth movement in our spiritual life. I hope that over the last few weeks you have been able to see the connection between the four movements and the next movement being a natural response or result of the last. This final movement should be the natural byproduct of the previous three. As disciples or apprentices of Jesus, who spend time with Jesus, who have been transformed by Jesus and into his likeness, and who become like Jesus in thought and practice, that all should lead us to living missionally.
What does it mean to join Jesus in His kingdom work? What does it mean to live missionally?
Joining Jesus in His kingdom work could be seen as partnering or even submitting to God's will for each one of us to be disciple makers who evangelize and disciple others. It also includes being people who live out their faith in action by loving others, practicing hospitality, showing compassion, caring for the least of people, seeking out those on the margins of society, and more. But it does not need or have to be anything huge or life-changing for you. It can be simply being faithful to God wherever you are and seeking to love God and your neighbor at every chance possible. It should involve us proclaiming the Gospel to others both in word and action. It should involve us seeing what makes us unique and who we are as tools or instruments by which God can draw others to Himself. It can involve us considering what we are good at, what we are passionate about, what we want to see change and putting ourselves in God's hands for Him to use us to minister to others through those skills, passions, etc.
It does not mean you have to move across the country or the world to be a missionary in the way we usually use that word. Living missionally is the intentional pursuit of others wherever we are, recognizing that we are disciples and disciple-makers in every place we live, work, eat, etc. Does that sound crazy or hard to you? We'll spend some time talking through this and getting ready for this movement that will move us to reaching the people around us with the greatest news ever.
What are you passionate about that you can use to help others know Jesus? In what ways is Jesus calling you to step out in faith? What have you been blessed with that might be a blessing to others? Do you live missionally? Do you want to?
